Listening For Whispers of Love

Whispers of love.

Psalms 116:2 “I love the Lord because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!”

What a picture of our heavenly father.  He bends down to listen as we pray.  He hears our prayers.  He desires intimacy, closeness as it was in the garden.  He cares about the details of our lives.

Do we listen for God’s voice with that kind of intensity?  Why do we not listen with our hearts bend toward Him?

“The voice of the Spirit is as gentle as a zephyr, so gentle that unless you are living in perfect communion with God, you never hear it.” Oswald Chambers

In order to hear the voice of God, we must be still.  Being still isn’t easy and it isn’t comfortable for very long.  If we are to live in perfect communion with God, which we can only do through the power of the Holy Spirit, we must be ready to obey what He says in the quiet moments.  Many times we hear the Spirit whispering to us but then we fail to follow in obedience.  Just as our conscience can become seared when we continue to do what we know we should not do, our prayer life and our ability to hear God’s voice is lessened because we are not sensitive and obedient to His still small voice.

“It’s not that we don’t have ears…it’s that we don’t use them! Scripture has always placed a premium on hearing God’s voice. The great command from God through Moses began with the words, “Hear O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD” (Deuteronomy 6:4 KJV).  Proverbs 8:34 says, “Happy are those who listen to me.” from Max Lucado, Just Like Jesus.

This year I want to seek Him and Listen to His voice.
