Listening- God speaks

Bronze Listen To To Listen Sculpture The Listening

I Samuel 3:9 “Speak, Lord for your servant is listening.”

One of the ways God speaks to us is through meditating on His Word.  Meditation literally means “to chew on”.  The world has given meditation a really bad connotation. We aren’t sitting around knees folding, humming nonsensical words and sounds.  We are studying on what God’s Word says to us.  Proper observation, correct interpretation and practical application gives us food for thought–meditation.

It is simply remembering what we read, thinking about it and following it with application in our lives.  Psalm 77:12 “ I will ponder all your works and meditate on your mighty deeds.”  The word “ponder” means to “muse”.  It is to remember and think upon so that it brings inspiration.  It is to “murmur” to yourself.  Telling yourself the works and mighty deeds God has done in your life.

How many time do we nurse, rehearse and dwell on something we’ve said or that someone has spoken to us?  Positive and negative words have impact on us.   Using God’s Word will transform our thinking.  We can control that stinking thinking we all do!

Listening to what comes into our minds through the Holy Spirit, who lives in us, will bring blessing in our lives and in the lives of those around us.
Psalm 19:14 “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer.”

Of what value is listening and meditating on God’s Word?

  • Proverbs 8:34 “Blessed is the man who listens to me.  Watching daily at my gates, waiting at my doorposts. For he who finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD.”   We receive blessings for listen, we find life and obtain favor from the Lord.

That is a good enough reason alone.

  1.     2. Isaiah 50:4b “that I may know how to sustain the weary one with a word.”

In our journey of faith, we are to minister faith and truth to one another.

Today there are a lot of people who need to be comforted, encouraged and sustained.

Only God can be their provider but we can be His arms and mouth to give to them hope.  Without hope no one lives well.

This week we continue to listen to hear God’s whisper.
