Tidbits of Wisdom (Proverbs 20)

Proverbs 20

Father and child walking together

The Good Life

Proverbs 20 is a collection of tidbits of wisdom from the Father to His children.  It has been said, if all you had on a deserted island was one page of Scripture it would be all you need!  Well, this Proverb would be all you need to know to live a good life, with honor and integrity, be you a pauper or a king.  Verse 11 sums it up quite nicely:  Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure and whether it be right.

Measuring Up

Tidbits of wisdom for life–ways to discern whether my life is an example of a “good life” or a wasted life.  Life is a gift and to live it wisely honors the Creator.  A good life begins as a child. Maturity is measured by one’s integrity, endeavors in seeking God, and in the treatment of one’s fellow man, created in the image of God.  Others judge us by our actions.  God judges by what is in our heart.  He looks first at our heart because it is here all our actions and words originate. (Matthew 15:18-20, Luke 6:45Proverbs 4:23; Proverbs 10:11) )   Verse 27 says it best:  The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.  The LORD judges our motives and not just our actions. (Proverbs 21:2)  We can do the “right thing” for all the wrong reasons.  (Proverbs 24:12)  This is a tidbit of wisdom!

Jesus washes disciples feet

Soul Searching

Today, take a few moments and ask the LORD to reveal to you any area of your life He would like to clean up.  Jesus expressed this, when He washed the feet of His followers in the upper room just prior to His death.  (John 12:1-17)   At salvation, we are made clean top to bottom, inside and out;  but, as we live in a fallen world our feet get dirty and we need a fresh washing from the Savior.  We need daily to search our soul.  Remember, Jesus said, “But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”  (Ladies, this is not just meant for the guys!)  Another little tidbit of wisdom.

Tidbits of wisdom, nuggets of gold, from the Lord, our Father, to His children.  Spiritual chewing gum.

Lord, listen to our hearts as we strive to please you!  We want to be known as YOUR’s by our lives.

About Yvonne Jones

I am at heart, a LIFEguard: "big" sister, mama, grandmother, aunt, friend, swimming coach, lifeguard trainer, and registered nurse. I am in the business of alleviating fear through education and lots of hand holding. As a swimming instructor, I have taught people of all ages to overcome fear of the water and I marvel as fear gives way to fearlessness, as panic turns to pure joy, as tears dissolve into giggles of glee, and pennies retrieved from the bottom of the abyss become trophies. As a nurse, I have been privileged to walk up to Heaven's gate as patients and family are welcomed home, witnessed the miracle of birth, helped mend broken hearts, and cared for the elderly as they wait. Scriptures number one admonition is "fear not." Question is HOW??? The Word becomes our swimming instructor and can help us learn to "tread water til Jesus comes." Something my students often thought I was going to make them do! So welcome to my pool! Jump in the cool water. Let it refresh your soul and feel the unseen hands of the Master Lifeguard lift you up and out of the deep water. Who knows, you just might even walk on water!
