Algebra

Genesis 2:17 …but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.

Genesis 5:3 And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years……

Psalm 90:4 For a thousand years in YOUR sight are like yesterday when it is past and like a watch in the night.

II Peter 3:8 But beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the LORD one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as a day.

Recently my Beauty posted on FB a meme about having never needed to use algebra one day in her adult life and she is still not happy she had to take it in high school. (Mom fail? NOT!) But this morning, I did. It was, however, unnecessary because in order to check my own calculations I Google(d) the question and found the answer. So, maybe she was right.

Why did I wake up with time on my mind? Maybe because yesterday, right after having lunch with a friend and running an errand for my Stoic, time stood still as I watched in the rear view mirror as a fully loaded with pallets of freshly cut lumber, tractor-trailer truck was attempting to stop behind me at a red light and when he came to a stop his front bumper was even with my driver side door. Had he not swerved to miss me I would not be writing this this morning or possibly ever again. My SUV would have been demolished and I would be plastered all over the front of the truck like Wile Coyote in a Road Runner cartoon.

Thoughts of my family flashed through my mind. They love me and though we do not always agree they would grieve. I know this because I still grieve my own losses: Daddy 38 years ago; Mamma 18 years ago, a grandmother 60 years ago (that one ages me); and so many others.

Time

 My broken anniversary clock

On the heels of these mental images came the scriptures in quick succession and I started wondering (which is always dangerous). Wondering about this thing we call time. Scripture tells us, “life is but a vapor.” (James 4:14, Psalm 39:5) I asked myself the question: “How long has Daddy really been gone in God’s economy of time?” The answer was, LESS THAN AN HOUR! My grandmother, an hour and a half. My husband, about 2 minutes. Well, no wonder it is so hard some days!!!

More importantly, Jesus has been away in God’s time economy for only 2 years (2000 yrs) building my mansion. There is more to that but it is for another day.

The light bulb (I am slow on the uptake of info) in my head came on as I thought about God’s admonition to Adam and Eve as He told them His only rule in the Garden was “don’t eat, do not take into your body the fruit of this one tree–knowledge of good and evil. It is poison and if you do you will die that day!” But in our minds he did not because he lived one hundred and thirty years (130). But, he DID die that day! Not he just began to die, or that sin’s sickness began. No, he DIED that day: about 3 hours later in God’s time. No man ever lived 1000 years or a complete day. (Genesis 5:21-27-Methuselah)

You too can Google the math but here are the numbers:

1000 years = 1 day (24 hours)

One hour = 41.67years

One minute = 0.695 years

One second = 0.012 years or 4 days 5 hours 25 minutes and 26 seconds

A heart beats 80-100 times per minute and you breathe 12-20 times per minute. Each heart beat God says “I love you!” Listen to the cadence. Each breath He says, “I’m here!”

Life really is a vapor for now. Eternity is still in the future. Choose your future wisely. Our next breath may be our eternal destiny.

Today, the big rig squealing to a stop is a memory of God’s grace to give me another day. I had just hugged a few friends I had not seen in a few weeks. Today, I am hugging you. I am taking your sweet face into my cupped hands and I am asking you, “Do you know my Jesus?” He said the ONLY way to His Father who is oh so HOLY is Himself (Jesus). Yesterday, all my good could have been used up. My entrance into the pearly gates will not be based on a scale weighing good to bad. It will be based on one thing: Jesus and does He know me?

The Bible says man is given 70 years, 80 if you are strong; or about 2 hours of life. Time is indeed short. My roller coaster life is coming into the final turn. (Psalm 90:10) I do not want to waste today.

May the LORD bless you and keep you, the LORD make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you: The LORD lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace! (Numbers 6:24-26)

About Yvonne Jones

I am at heart, a LIFEguard: "big" sister, mama, grandmother, aunt, friend, swimming coach, lifeguard trainer, and registered nurse. I am in the business of alleviating fear through education and lots of hand holding. As a swimming instructor, I have taught people of all ages to overcome fear of the water and I marvel as fear gives way to fearlessness, as panic turns to pure joy, as tears dissolve into giggles of glee, and pennies retrieved from the bottom of the abyss become trophies. As a nurse, I have been privileged to walk up to Heaven's gate as patients and family are welcomed home, witnessed the miracle of birth, helped mend broken hearts, and cared for the elderly as they wait. Scriptures number one admonition is "fear not." Question is HOW??? The Word becomes our swimming instructor and can help us learn to "tread water til Jesus comes." Something my students often thought I was going to make them do! So welcome to my pool! Jump in the cool water. Let it refresh your soul and feel the unseen hands of the Master Lifeguard lift you up and out of the deep water. Who knows, you just might even walk on water!

Mercy, I made a lot of typing errors in this! Guess you can see my math skills……
My Daddy died 48 years ago or a little over an hour.
Jesus died 2000 years ago or 2 days.
The message is the same despite my mathematical lack of expertise. Do you know Jesus? Tomorrow is not guarantee. The Father told Adam “in THAT day you will surely die.” The times have grown ever shorter as sin has taken its toll. Don’t be left behind. Please, don’t be late…….
    In His love,
    Yvonne

I need to make a correction. Adam was 130 years old when Seth was born and he died 800 years later (930 years old) or 22.32 hours in God’s economy of time. He still died in that day he sinned. Please accept my apologies for this error.

I think I have been trying to squeeze-in as much life as I could in the past 7 years of my healing . Being still is so difficult for me, but I am trying. Trying to spend as much time with family as I can. I appreciate every hour but need to spend more time studying and listening to God’s Word and his voice. Thanks for the reminder through this powerful message! God bless you and your family! ♥️
