New Year 2020

Proverbs 16:1, 7, 9; 19:21

The preparation of the heart belong to man but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord. A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps. When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. There are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the Lord’s counsel–that will stand.

Happy New Year 2020

Twenty years ago as the new millennium dawned and Y2K was the fear of all who owned computers and relied on cyberspace, who would have dreamed we would see 2020. I know many in the Christian community did not for we anticipate the return of Christ at any moment. I for one cannot wait! I am over planet earth with all its quaking, sorrow, devastation, and war. “Come quickly Lord Jesus,” is the cry of my heart.

As I ended the year of 2019, I was in Proverbs daily. Certain themes repeated over and over. I began to take notes and try my best to listen with my heart to the Words of the Lord.

This theme of “I can make my own plans but God has the final say,” was loud and clear. His sovereignty is paramount. He handles every detail of this world: right down to how enemies act, who stands and who falls, and the very steps one takes!

New Opportunities

This year dawns with new opportunities. Will I be submissive to His will? It is my choice. He gave me free will. My word for this year is submission. To allow the Lord of glory to have His way without me being obstinate, arguing, or procrastinating. Just, “Yes, Lord!”

The Greek word for submission is hypotasso means “to arrange properly under God’s arrangement, i.e. submitting to the Lord (His plan), to obey.” Jesus said our obedience shows our love (John 14:15-17, 21, 23-24, I John 5:2-3).

I struggle with others being at odds with me. The Word of the Lord is reminding me, IF I am pleasing HIM rather than man, He will handle even those who think I am a few bricks shy of a full load. This is a scripture I need to memorize and preach to self. (Proverbs 16:7)

Submission

So a year of submission is ahead. Are you feeling my angst? The whole idea of submission is against every natural inclination. However, Jesus modeled submission to His Father! I am to follow His example. I don’t expect it to be easy but I expect He will honor my efforts. He says He will! If you see me, ask me how it’s going. I am a terrible liar so it will be obvious by my facial expression! Accountability is something I need.

(put this on and listen in the background and let the words speak)

Proverbs 21:2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the heart.

LORD, find our hearts faithful and focused on YOU and You alone in this New Year!

About Yvonne Jones

I am at heart, a LIFEguard: "big" sister, mama, grandmother, aunt, friend, swimming coach, lifeguard trainer, and registered nurse. I am in the business of alleviating fear through education and lots of hand holding. As a swimming instructor, I have taught people of all ages to overcome fear of the water and I marvel as fear gives way to fearlessness, as panic turns to pure joy, as tears dissolve into giggles of glee, and pennies retrieved from the bottom of the abyss become trophies. As a nurse, I have been privileged to walk up to Heaven's gate as patients and family are welcomed home, witnessed the miracle of birth, helped mend broken hearts, and cared for the elderly as they wait. Scriptures number one admonition is "fear not." Question is HOW??? The Word becomes our swimming instructor and can help us learn to "tread water til Jesus comes." Something my students often thought I was going to make them do! So welcome to my pool! Jump in the cool water. Let it refresh your soul and feel the unseen hands of the Master Lifeguard lift you up and out of the deep water. Who knows, you just might even walk on water!

We would love to hear from you
