Little White Lies

Little White Lies

Little white lies are they just exaggerations or truly lies?

Driving along one day with two of my grandchildren in the back seat, I heard my granddaughter say “does your momma lie to you?” My grandson said, “what?”
She repeated, “does your momma lie to you? My momma lies to me. She will tell me I’ll be ready in a second and she is never ready in a second.” LOL!

LYING

When I first thought about her observation, I guess technically her momma was lying and I have found myself saying things similar. We so often say things that are not truthful, but not really intending to be dishonest. Many times we exaggerate the truth. Perhaps we might say we caught ten fish when really it was only eight. Or, I bet I  walked a 100 miles today when it was just a walk to the mailbox. Or something like I have been in the kitchen all day. It easy to be prideful and want to impress others with our accomplishments or make our comment have merit.

THINK

Subsequently, we need to think before we speak. God warns us to be honest.

Psalms 34:13, “Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips from speaking deceit.”

Proverbs 12:22 “Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal truthfully are His delight.”

Remember little ears are listening

Some of you may think this is going a little far. After all what is the problem of saying something that really isn’t intended to be an untruth. Apparently, God takes it seriously. Our children and grandchildren learn from our behavior and, yes, our speech. Their little minds are like a sponge.

Furthermore, God is the One we need to please with our speech. The truth is a delight to the Lord.

About Paula Wallace

A child of God, wife, mother and grandmother of 6 precious children. I love art, nature and treasure my dear friends. Through the valleys and mountaintops, God led me to His saving grace at the age of 32. Since then the valleys and mountaintops have proven His love to me. I am learning to trust Him in all things. My prayer is that you, too, accept Jesus as Lord and Savior and trust Him. The Bible verse that I lean on mostly is Proverbs 3: 5-6 “ Trust in the Lord with all your heart. And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path.”NKJV Paula Wallace
