Baubles and Beads of Wisdom-Proverbs

Baubles and Beads

Matthew 6:21

Proverbs 4:7-9

Did you know the Bible says we can have all the baubles and beads we want?  Well, sign me up!  I LOVE jewelry!  I don’t quite look like Mr. T (I just dated myself) of the A-Team, but a girl can never have too much jewelry!  And I like the good stuff!  No “costume jewelry” for me! I mean, give me a crown!  (Proverbs 4:9)

Precious Jewels

Proverbs tells us we can have all the baubles and beads we want:  long life, confidence, safety, security, strength, grace, happiness, and money.  Wisdom is compared to having all these baubles and beads.  Not exactly what you were thinking was it?   (Proverbs 3:3, Proverbs 3:8Proverbs 3:15-18, Proverbs 3:22-24; Proverbs 4:8, Proverbs 4:22)

Seek Wisdom

The jewelry: Wisdom MUST BE sought after.  It must be a priority. (Proverbs 2:1-10)  It is analogous to panning for gold.

The Father adorns His children with wisdom, understanding, knowledge, discretion, instruction, justice, judgment, prudence, and wise counsel.  It is Solomon who writes and compares wisdom to jewelry;  “they will be graceful ornaments on your head, and chains about your neck, and honor and a crown of glory.  And he reminds us that health, safety, long life, and peace are more valuable than silver, gold, and rubies.   In fact, he tells us it will “deliver us from evil,”  in all its forms.

(Matthew 6:13, Proverbs 2:12-16, Proverbs 3:23-24, Proverbs 3:35; Proverbs 4:8-10: Proverbs 8:10-11, Proverbs 8:19; Proverbs 11:4-9)

Baubles and Beads

These baubles and beads are to be bound to our fingers, written on the tablets of our heart (stone turned into flesh) and tied around our neck.  (Proverbs 3:3;  6:21;  7:3; Ezekiel 11:19; 36:26; Jeremiah 31:33; Hebrews 8:10)  Doesn’t that describe rings, necklaces, and a princess’ crown?

It is the heart that adorns

As a young bride, I struggled in the shadow of my “dressed to the nines all the time” mother-in-law.  My Prince Charming saw this and one day he said to me, “Honey, anyone can look good and turn heads if they have enough money.  You turned my head with your smile and the light in your eyes.”  Who could not love a man who talked like that?  What he was saying is the outward appearance is not what is important but it is what is in the heart that adorns us.  (I Samuel 16:7)  Actually, he was quoting scripture and giving me a Word from the Lord.  It was to be this way our entire married life.  Like king Solomon, he was wise.  (Proverbs 18:4;  20:5;  20:27-28;  22:1; 27:21)  THIS IS WHAT THE LORD WANTS YOU TO KNOW SO BADLY HE REPEATED IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!!  (Proverbs 18:11)

The reasonable facsimile baubles and beads are ok.  However, I am more interested in giving nuggets of gold and pieces of silver to others.  (Proverbs 3:13-18)  This is what our mission here is.  Offer a bit of wisdom so others too may find honor and receive all the crowns God wants to give them.  (Proverbs 17:6, 8Proverbs 25:4,11)

As we approach the Thanksgiving season, may we remember where our heart is, there is our treasure (jewelry box).  I pray your treasures are baubles and beads of wisdom.  (Proverbs  8:10-11, 17-19; Proverbs 17:3;  Matthew 6:21)  Happy Thanksgiving season everyone!

Prayer for Wisdom

Father, I give thanks to You, the Father of my Lord, Jesus Christ.  Father Your love for me since before I became a “saint” is the hope laid up for me in Heaven even before I heard the Truth through the Word.    I pray Father, that You would increase my desire to be filled with the knowledge of His Wisdom and Spiritual understanding so I might walk worthy of the LORD always increasing in knowledge of God.   In this assurance of understanding are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.  Grant to me oh God, the mind of Christ which is the wisdom of God.  For in wisdom, I am delivered from the power of darkness and into the kingdom of thy dear Son and filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.  Amen.
