Dribbling to Reach the Goal

Dribbling to the goal

SEC sports are great entertainment. Football, basketball and baseball are so much fun to watch and I enjoy it all. Even more fun and entertaining is when I get to attend a sporting event in which one of my grandchildren participates. Recently, my 12 year old grandson played in a basketball game which Joe and I watched. The game was played in a gymnasium that had two courts. Two games were being played at the same time. It was very hard for the players to distinguish whistles and buzzers. On occasion a player would stop play and the ball would be turned over to the other team because the whistle was for the other game. So much noise and often confusion.

Keep Dribbling

Continuing with the analogy of basketball, let’s just say you are dribbling down the court of decision. You are at peace that you are going in the right direction and obeying God’s will. Even though there are obstacles ( players from the other team) trying to block your way, you keep dribbling toward the goal. Noises are coming from all directions. It is loud and distracting. The closer you get to the goal, the louder those doubts and uncertainties become. Suddenly, the whistle blows and you STOP!

The Whistle

The whistle could represent an obstacle that makes you doubt that you are in God’s will. It could be a temporary pause in life like illness. Possibly things just aren’t turning out the way you envisioned. The whistle is loud and for a moment in time you wonder if it is the Holy Spirit changing your plans.

Recognize His Voice

John 10:4b, HCSB, “The sheep follow Him because they recognize His voice.”

How can someone determine if the whistle is from God or another distraction? Is the whistle from your ‘game’? How do you know if God is telling you to stop?

John 10:4 tells us we will recognize His voice. You will not receive directions from God that is contrary to the word of God. The Bible is truth.

Experience Peace

When we are dribbling the way of the Lord for our life, we will have ease and peace of mind. That does not mean that it will be easy. Remember those obstacles, the players trying to keep you from your goal, will be large in your mission. However, within your heart, you will experience peace.

Score for His Glory

There have been times in my life that I have been certain of the will of God. Other times, not certain at all. I seek Him in prayer, read His word and listen to the Holy Spirit. Keep dribbling. Keep trying to reach that goal and score for His glory.

About Paula Wallace

A child of God, wife, mother and grandmother of 6 precious children. I love art, nature and treasure my dear friends. Through the valleys and mountaintops, God led me to His saving grace at the age of 32. Since then the valleys and mountaintops have proven His love to me. I am learning to trust Him in all things. My prayer is that you, too, accept Jesus as Lord and Savior and trust Him. The Bible verse that I lean on mostly is Proverbs 3: 5-6 “ Trust in the Lord with all your heart. And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path.”NKJV Paula Wallace
