Creativity and Blessing

Roy and Karly

Genesis 5: 1-2  This is the book of the generations of Adam.  In the day when God created man, He made him in the likeness of God.  He created them male and female, and He blessed them and named them Man in the day when they were created.

God is a God of creativity.  A genius in math, science, art, architecture, engineering, astronomy, language arts, and every other subject we can fathom, and He names what He creates and puts “it” just where it belongs, PERFECTLY, without a  single mistake!  Because we are made in the image of God we too are endowed with creativity and giftedness.  No, we are not good at everything but we each can do something well.  We are able to learn to do those things that do not come “naturally.”  When we “create” we find our “passion” and it gives us a sense of accomplishment, just like when God the Father “saw everything He had made, and, behold, it was very good.” (Genesis 1:31)

Hebrew “To bless” someone or something is לברך , an active-intensive verb. Thus one who is blessed – the recipient of the blessing is the corresponding passive מבורך if he’s a male or מבורכת if she’s an female.  This applies to non-human and non-living nouns as well:    (https://ulpan.com/how-to-say-blessed-in-hebrew/)  This Hebrew word is barak which is to praise.  God praised His own creation.  He found joy in what He created.

I used to smock dresses and make costumes for my daughter and granddaughters.  It was a creative venture.  It was a gift from me to them.  I found great joy in the time spent and in the smiles of the recipients.  Each garment, an act of love and great care, went into the planning, purchase of materials,

selections of color, fabric, threads, and style.  Each stitch done with a prayer of blessing.  Upon completion, I would wash, dry, iron, and prepare for presentation.  I was “well pleased” with the end result or it was not given.  I made pictures of the girls in their dresses and cataloged them as a way to recall the joy and pleasure I had experienced in the creation, and blessing of each garment.  Once those days were complete, it was up to each of the girls and their moms to decide how the garments would be preserved, shared, or disposed of.  This is the nature of a gift.  It is given and without strings attached.  Today, I mend and alter.  This time of creating is past.

God has created all we need.  He blessed His creation and called it “very good.”  He gave it ALL as a gift.  No strings attached.  It is up to me how I will use the gift, care for the gift, share the gift, treasure the gift or discard the gift.  When I seek Him, He will even help me keep the gifts in good repair and alter as needed depending on my needs.

God’s beauty and creativity in nature

God has placed within each of us creativity and the ability to bless and name.  The gifts were placed within us for the good of the Creator, the created, and creation.  Don’t waste your gift today.  Use it for your good, the blessing of others, and above all, His glory!  Trust me, YOU DO HAVE A GIFT!

Worship by thanking our Father for His creativity

About Yvonne Jones

I am at heart, a LIFEguard: "big" sister, mama, grandmother, aunt, friend, swimming coach, lifeguard trainer, and registered nurse. I am in the business of alleviating fear through education and lots of hand holding. As a swimming instructor, I have taught people of all ages to overcome fear of the water and I marvel as fear gives way to fearlessness, as panic turns to pure joy, as tears dissolve into giggles of glee, and pennies retrieved from the bottom of the abyss become trophies. As a nurse, I have been privileged to walk up to Heaven's gate as patients and family are welcomed home, witnessed the miracle of birth, helped mend broken hearts, and cared for the elderly as they wait. Scriptures number one admonition is "fear not." Question is HOW??? The Word becomes our swimming instructor and can help us learn to "tread water til Jesus comes." Something my students often thought I was going to make them do! So welcome to my pool! Jump in the cool water. Let it refresh your soul and feel the unseen hands of the Master Lifeguard lift you up and out of the deep water. Who knows, you just might even walk on water!

The pic of Roy and Karly is a true picture of a grandfather’s love!! I know that she treasures it along with you and Summer. If we could only find our God given gifts and use them instead trying to be like others! I love your example of sewing stitches of love. Bless you and your family!!
