Not a Bed of Roses

Not a Bed Of Roses by Susan Browder

“We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went
through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability
to endure, and we thought we would never live through it.” 2 Corinthians 1:8

September 6, 2016 was two years since Jacob’s injury. These two years have in no
way been a bed of roses. Before this time in our lives, I had never really focused on the
pain that some people must go through that are faced with some sort of affliction. It was
real to me now. I always told people that I was praying for them, which I did, but never
really offered my support.

The hardest parts about Jacob’s recovery are the days where I see the look in his eyes
of discomfort, loss, and aloneness. He has stated several times that he feels a burden
to us. My heart shatters each time this comes out of his mouth. On these days I remind
him that he isn’t truly alone, to look for a strength that doesn’t come from us, and to take
a step back and remember there is a full picture that we will see one day.

“Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him.” 1 Chronicles 16:11

I have witnessed many days where I can see Jacob’s healing and get a “big picture”
glimpse. One example of these types of days in August of 2016 when Jacob had his senior pictures made. These experiencing God moments give me chills and thankful tears.
Jacob has faced a lot in his young life. We get through everyday no matter how tough. All of these trials and suffering that Jacob’s has endured has really matured and grown him into a young man with the sweetest spirit and a fierce attitude of determination. So no Jacob, you are not at all a burden, but a tremendous blessing!

I am so thankful that Jacob is thriving today and is with us today. I can’t imagine what life would be like without him. We are all truly and abundantly thankful and blessed.

“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that
you need, you will abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8

About Susan Browder

“Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.”  Hebrews 11:1 I grew up in a small town in Alabama called Boligee. I am a wife and a mom to two sons, Nick who is 24 and married to his sweet wife, Mallory, and Jacob who is 18.  My husband, Nicky, is a person of who I am so proud. Our lives changed forever on September 6, 2014 about 7:00 pm. Our son, Jacob, had an accident that would deeper our faith in God and challenge us in ways we never dreamed. My prayer is that our story will encourage others in their struggles with life altering experiences. My writing will be our testimonies but more than that it is about how we have a loving, caring God that carries us through the most difficult times of our lives.

We would love to hear from you
