The Love of a Brother

The Love of a Brother by Susan Browder
“A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need.” Proverbs 17:17

Jacob’s brother, Nick, has always been his brother’s keeper. Nick was in college at the time of Jacob’s injury. In November of 2014, Nick stayed with us a lot during this time. I went back to teaching in December of 2014. When Nick wasn’t in school, he was with Jacob. They went to therapy, rehab, and appointments together. Nick was such a comfort to us all. He always sees the “sunshine” when it’s raining. You will always see Nick wearing a broad, contagious smile no matter what. There are so many things that I adore about Nick but if I had to pick one, it would be his encouraging soul.
When Jacob lost every friend, Nick was there. Nick was his steady friend. He was there for pep talks every day and that kept me going. Life was so hard. We were use to a “full” house and Jacob constantly coming and going with such a busy and fun life. We were all so weary but every day, God got us through it with the love of a brother. Nick instilled in Jacob daily one simple thought. “Jacob, you are good enough for anyone. If people can’t see that, it’s their loss.” This kind of love that Nick had for his brother, drove out many fears that Jacob had. These “love of a brother” moments are gifts from God.
Nick and Jacob have always been close, but never like they are now. When one hurts, the other feels it. Their protection for one another now is on another level.

“Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8

Nick and Jacob have taught each other many things in life. In my opinion, the most valuable is to grip on to God and let him lead you. Don’t be fearful and to stick with each other no matter the circumstances.
“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” Romans 12:9-10

About Susan Browder

“Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.”  Hebrews 11:1 I grew up in a small town in Alabama called Boligee. I am a wife and a mom to two sons, Nick who is 24 and married to his sweet wife, Mallory, and Jacob who is 18.  My husband, Nicky, is a person of who I am so proud. Our lives changed forever on September 6, 2014 about 7:00 pm. Our son, Jacob, had an accident that would deeper our faith in God and challenge us in ways we never dreamed. My prayer is that our story will encourage others in their struggles with life altering experiences. My writing will be our testimonies but more than that it is about how we have a loving, caring God that carries us through the most difficult times of our lives.

What a Blessing to see how God uses Valleys and Trials in our life to draw us closer to him, but also witness to others. You have a wonderful family that we love. Both your boys are special young men. You and Nicky should be proud.
