In The Name of Jesus Lesson #2

In the Name of Jesus
Lesson #2

Romans 8:26-27 King James Version (KJV)
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

From Catherine Marshall’s book THE HELPER

“There could be no entering into the full secret of answered prayer until the coming of the Helper (Holy Spirit),……God the Father would receive our petitions at the throne of grace and mercy; the glorified Christ would be our Advocate (attorney) and High Priest to present our case and plead our petition before the Father; the Holy Spirit would show us how to prepare our petitions so they would be made according to the will of God and therefore would be answered.
…..True desire at the heart of our prayer-petitions is buried under debris that obscures and muddles the real issue.   The Helper’s task is to show us blockages (self-seeking, control, resentment, sin).”

John 20:31  King James Version (KJV)

31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

Focus for lesson #2 is pages 1-10 of In the Name of Jesus

Proverbs 4:20-22  New International Version (NIV)

20 My son (believers), pay attention to what I say;
turn your ear to my words 21 Do not let them out of your sight,
keep them within your heart;
22 for they are life to those who find them
and health to one’s whole body.  (emphasis mine)

Write this in your book, tab a section of your notebook for Scriptures for easy reference.

For this study our focus (words to pay attention to is the NAME OF JESUS).

  1. W. Kenyon biography notes can be found on Wikipedia
  2. Kenneth Hagin was witnessed by his son for more than 70 years constantly studying the Word. (from forward of another manuscript)

Jeremiah 1:12  King James Version (KJV)

12 Then said the Lord unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

The Lord is watching over His Word to bring it to pass.  Nothing thrills the Father like His daughters getting into His Word.

Questions from Chapter One

#1.  What does it mean to have Power of Attorney?

Power of attorney is a legal document (written down) giving permission to an individual or individuals to use another’s name to make transactions as if the holder of the power of attorney were the person whose name they are acting on behalf of.  It can and does have limitations as set out by the conferee.

#2. What  is the value of this Power of Attorney?

The value of a power of attorney is not recognized unless it is used.  It depends on how much there is to back up (the documentation)  how much authority (granted use of) and how much power this name represents (think about having power of attorney for Warren Buffett vs the power of attorney for a homeless person.  Which has more value?).  All power and authority Jesus had is invested in His NAME.

Matthew 28:18-20  King James Version (KJV)

18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

#3. How may we use His Name (the Name of Jesus)?

Scripture tells us we have Jesus POA (power of attorney). Matthew 28:18-20
John 16:23-24  King James Version (KJV)
23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
“Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

In that day refers to the Church Age.    We as believers are to appropriate our POA and use His name in prayer for the benefit of others.  Focus:  the whole authority of Heaven is at our disposal and our goal is to learn to use this authority for the furtherance of the Kingdom.  We are the Bride of Christ and He has not left us destitute.

Hebrews 9:12 King James Version (KJV)

12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

Mark 16:17-18  King James Version (KJV)

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Matthew 18:19-20 King James Version (KJV)

Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Reconcile ourselves to the fact that we have been ignorant (this means we lacked knowledge).  We will use the Word to learn how to use these available resources for Kingdom living.  It is a huge learning curve and will require us to exercise our FAITH.    Hosea 4:6  “My people are destroyed for the lack of knowledge.”

#4. Jesus instructed us to pray to the Father in His Name.  John 16:23

#5.  Where does Jesus state God’s will concerning prayer?

Philippians 4:19 King James Version (KJV)

“>But my God shall supply all your needs  according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 9:8 King James Version (KJV)

8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

Prayers not being answered?  What is the problem?  It is not God!

We will continue next week.

2 Timothy 2:15 King James Version (KJV)

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Blessings,

About Yvonne Jones

I am at heart, a LIFEguard: "big" sister, mama, grandmother, aunt, friend, swimming coach, lifeguard trainer, and registered nurse. I am in the business of alleviating fear through education and lots of hand holding. As a swimming instructor, I have taught people of all ages to overcome fear of the water and I marvel as fear gives way to fearlessness, as panic turns to pure joy, as tears dissolve into giggles of glee, and pennies retrieved from the bottom of the abyss become trophies. As a nurse, I have been privileged to walk up to Heaven's gate as patients and family are welcomed home, witnessed the miracle of birth, helped mend broken hearts, and cared for the elderly as they wait. Scriptures number one admonition is "fear not." Question is HOW??? The Word becomes our swimming instructor and can help us learn to "tread water til Jesus comes." Something my students often thought I was going to make them do! So welcome to my pool! Jump in the cool water. Let it refresh your soul and feel the unseen hands of the Master Lifeguard lift you up and out of the deep water. Who knows, you just might even walk on water!

We would love to hear from you
