America-Fear Not Destruction

Zephaniah 3:16  “In the day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not:  and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack.”

The prophet Zephaniah is reminding the nation of Israel that God has a plan for them and despite how things look, The LORD will restore Israel to her former glory, drive out her enemies, and redeem her people.

“The Lord your God is with you,

the Mighty Warrior who saves.

He will take great delight in you;

in his love he will no longer rebuke you,

but will rejoice over you with singing.”  Zephaniah 3:17

My beloved America is in a glorious mess.  Our economy is in all probability in such a state we will never recover our once global dominance.  Our military is being dismantled and our borders are vulnerable to invasion by those who would destroy us.  Our Constitution and Bill of Rights have been eroded and we are no longer “One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”  We are divided by ideals, religion, race, you name it.  We are imploding from within.  Our current presidential election is a microcosm of our nation on display for the entire world to view.  It makes me so sad.  SIGH!  Jesus Himself wept over Jerusalem for the same reasons.

God has a covenant with Israel.  God has a covenant with His people.  God has a covenant with all who have trusted in the name of Jesus for salvation.  This is why this verse offers hope.  The LORD is saying fear not for your homeland;  don’t let your arms hang limp in defeat and hopelessness for the LORD Himself will save us from our enemies.  He takes delight in us and His love outweighs His correction.  Thank You LORD!

For a nation, not just Israel,  He says, “IF my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (II Chronicles 7:14)

As we face an election of leaders, we must do this first!  Turn from our individual ways that are displeasing to Him, pray, ask forgiveness, seek His wisdom and leadership and THEN He will heal our very sick nation.   Individuals on our knees, collectively seeking forgiveness for our individual and national sin, will turn the heart of God.  It is not too late YET!  I do believe the sands in the hourglass are becoming dangerously low and time is running out.  This may be our last opportunity to have the Lord withhold His judgment on our nation and withdraw His blessing.

America was once a proud nation.  We were built on the Word of God.  Founded by those seeking freedom to worship God.   Thomas Jefferson is quoted as saying, “ I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever.”  Yes, we have had some dark days in our history.   This is one of those times.  He has restored our nation after a civil war.  He has protected us and we have been prosperous times.  May we recognize where our blessings come from once more.

Will you join me today in fasting and praying for our nation to seek the LORD?   I do not believe He is finished with the United States of America just yet.  God Bless America!

“Prayer is reaching out after the unseen; fasting is letting go of all that is seen and temporal.  Fasting helps express, deepen, confirm the resolution that we are ready to sacrifice anything, even ourselves, to attain what we seek for the kingdom of God.”  Andrew Murray

About Yvonne Jones

I am at heart, a LIFEguard: "big" sister, mama, grandmother, aunt, friend, swimming coach, lifeguard trainer, and registered nurse. I am in the business of alleviating fear through education and lots of hand holding. As a swimming instructor, I have taught people of all ages to overcome fear of the water and I marvel as fear gives way to fearlessness, as panic turns to pure joy, as tears dissolve into giggles of glee, and pennies retrieved from the bottom of the abyss become trophies. As a nurse, I have been privileged to walk up to Heaven's gate as patients and family are welcomed home, witnessed the miracle of birth, helped mend broken hearts, and cared for the elderly as they wait. Scriptures number one admonition is "fear not." Question is HOW??? The Word becomes our swimming instructor and can help us learn to "tread water til Jesus comes." Something my students often thought I was going to make them do! So welcome to my pool! Jump in the cool water. Let it refresh your soul and feel the unseen hands of the Master Lifeguard lift you up and out of the deep water. Who knows, you just might even walk on water!

      Just read today’s post. I guess our fear is more for our children and grandchildren than for ourselves. It breaks my heart to watch the news knowing what my dad and others went through for our freedom . Thank you for any reminder that God is in control and has a plan. Too late for fasting, but I will! Bless you, Von.
