Think about what is honorable

LET ME THINK?????

Whatever is true… Whatever is honorable… think on this.image00

Honorable.. to be worthy of respect. An honorable person inspires us to live better. As a Christian, to think on honorable things seems to get harder each day. We are bombarded with so much that is dishonorable to God,
How do we stay focused on what is honorable? We must control our thought life.

There is a proverb that says:
Sow a thought, reap an action
Sow an action, reap a habit
Sow a habit, reap a character
Sow a character, reap a destiny!

There are only 4 occasions for the use of this word in the New Testament. I Timothy 3:8 speaks of deacons being men of honor (dignity). In I Timothy 3:11, “Women must likewise be dignified,(honorable) not malicious gossips, but temperate, faithful in all things.” In Titus 2:2, “Older men are to be temperate, dignified (honorable), sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance.” And here in Philippians 4:8, we read we are to think on things that are honorable.  What does honorable look like?  Dignity.  Integrity.  Temperate.  Faithful. Sensible.  Sound in faith.  Not malicious in our words.  Loving.  Respectable in our character.

Proverbs 4:23 “Watch over your heart with all diligence for from it flows the springs of life.” (NASB)   Your heart and mind are used many times interchangeably in God’s Word.

Mark Twain once wrote, “What a wee little part of a person’s life are his acts and his words! His real life is led in his head, and is known to none but himself. All day long, the mill of his brain is grinding, and his thoughts, not those other things, are his history.” (Reader’s Digest [1/93], p. 155).

Who we become is born in our thoughts. Our destiny, honorable or dishonorable, will be told by how we control our thoughts.

My challenge this week: I desire to weed out anything that would not inspire me and others to live godly lives.

Father,
I pray that our lives would bring honor to you. Help me to honor you in my thoughts and actions.
Amen

This is my Desire to Honor You
