II Chronicles 20:17     Ye shall not need to fight in this battle:  set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem:  fear not, nor be dismayed;  tomorrow  go out against them:  the LORD  will be with you.

Now this is a fear not to grab onto like a life ring thrown to a drowning victim:  you need not fight this battle;  be still, be quiet, and just watch!  Yes, this problem is daunting.  No, we are not equal to the task before us.  There appears to be NO WAY this situation will work out in a favorable way but the “LORD will be with you.”    The Master Lifeguard is on his stand ever watchful, equipment in hand, ready to spring into action to save those in peril.

Are you taking the lifeguard for granted or do you thank Him for His ever present, watchful care?  “Thanksgiving precedes the miracle.” (quote from One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp).  Thanksgiving is all that is needed for the rescue.  

For the last year, this has been the Lifeguard’s words to my weary, broken heart.  “Be still, be quiet.”  My soul screams, “I WANT TO HELP!”  His reply, “Your help has gotten us nowhere in decades.”  OUCH!   Like a drowning victim I have struggled against the current, exhausting myself and nearly destroying other relationships around me as I grasped for a dream, a hope, a NEED I desperately wanted.  Now, it appears as if that for which I have fought so hard is forever lost and I am about to give up.  The fog surrounds these cold, dark waters and no rescue is in sight.

Out of the silence comes a “still small voice” whispering this lifeline verse.  Read it again out loud with me.  

Has anything changed?  NOPE!  Situation wise-it is worse than ever.  The tempest rises and I choke tears of deep sorrow.  But, I am changing.  I have stopped struggling  and I am at long last allowing the Lifeguard to pull me to safety.  My life is in His hands; I need no longer be distressed or fear what I cannot control.  He will be with me!  He will be with you!
